WTF-i know I only took grade 10 biology but seriously doctors?? can anyone figure this out?

The doctors said that my poppa (great grand father) would be fine and be able to go home soon, but unfortunatly would never fully recover as he is going into heart failure, because ONE OF HIS HEART VALVES HAS CLOSED....

as far as i know, the valve in the heart is what lets the blood into the atrium and into the rest of the body
how the F*ck does this make any sense, if it was closed (not closing, noooo CLOSED) wouldnt he be dead by now?
oh ya, and may i mention he went in there with a lung infection due to a cold, and is coming out like this

Your grandfathers heart is no longer pumping enough blood to open and close the valve properly and the valve doesn't seem to be fully closed (a condition known as mitral regurgitation). Basically the valve is technically closed but leaking. The heart pumps a weak stream through the valve but not enough to fully open it and then some of the blood leaks back into the heart.
