Back started to hurt when walking?

I went out for a fitness walk and my lower back starting hurting. Could it be my shoes? Anybody's back started to hurt when they went walking?

If you have had and consistently worn your shoes for a year or more, yes, it could be the shoes as they could be losing the support you need when you walk for exercise. If you are just kinda strolling around the house doing chores and such, you may not feel the pain they are causing as much but walking for fitness places more pressure on your bones and joints and since your back is so much a part of you, it will hurt after a while if not properly aligned because of worn-out or non-supportive shoes.

It could also be the way you walk. If you concentrate more of your step on the heel of your feet, the pain could be traveling to your back. Or if you look down at the road a lot, it could be straining your neck to back muscles and pulling at the lumbar region.

Don't forget to stretch before walking and that includes your back as well, not just your legs. At least raise your arms, grabbing your wrists and do a couple of stretches like you would do when you first wake up. The whole big yawn (take deep breaths), chest out, shoulders pushed back thing.
