My period is SUPER heavy ! I use a superplus tampon and a pad ?

Okay, well i first got it in November 08' , and the last time i got it it was SO heavy. I used a overnight, the heaviest pad EVER, and superplus tampon, and would have to change the tampon like every two hours... and or it would leak through to the pad and no fill it all up, but alot. Have any suggestions on what i should do?

It's called 'Menorrhagia', I've always had this, I loose 10 times more flow and my periods last up to 11 days, it can be difficult to get help and find ways to manage but it is possible. See a doctor first, often there's no cause but rule out problems like endometriosis and get tests for anemia when needed. Often the pill is used as a quick-fix but it can cause side-effects including heavier flow and may cover-up an underlying cause, it's an option but look into other treatments like progesterone cream or norethisterone. I recommend mefenamic and tranexamic acid, prior to this I was only ever offered the pill which didn't work and caused life-threatening side-effects, switching to this treatment made a huge difference by halfing my flow without side-effects. I also recommend menstrual cups, the single best way to manage menorrhagia, they hold more than tampons or pads so can be left for 12 hours including during sleep and they don't leak, they're also more cost-effective. Brands; Divacup, Miacup, Ladycup, Mooncup, Mooncup US, Keeper, Lunette, Femmecup, Yuuki, or softcups like Instead which are a little different but with similar benefits. Tampons increase flow and cramps due to effect on vaginal health, so if sticking with tampons try organic or sponge which will help. I used to use super-plus tampons and night pads but would leak through both and my clothing within 15 minutes, since getting a cup it's totally changed as I've never leaked, even at night, my vaginal health is better and it's saved me over a thousand pounds.

Make sure to eat healthy, even changes to diet leading up to your period will help. Make sure you're getting iron to make up for blood loss, magnesium, zinc and calcium for menstrual health, vitamin E to regulate flow, and vitamins A and C to regulate estrogen levels to lessen flow. Or simply take a multivitamin. Coffee is a good way to lessen flow as it is a vasoconstrictor so constricts blood vessels in the uterus preventing heavy blood loss. For herbal treatments try chaste tree, a study in Germany showed women who took 40 drops daily saw significant improvement. Evening primrose oil or black cohosh capsules taken daily will regulate hormones helping prevent heavy periods, also drink either vitex tea or a women's tea blend to help. Stress is a factor so deal with emotional issues, I have yet to meet a specialist who does not talk at length about the links between emotion and menstrual problems, and will ask paitents about their life before anything else. Attitude is important too as those who feel badly about menstruation suffer as a result, if you have a positive attitude then as well as enjoying them you're more likely to learn all you can to better manage them. This is important as often information is lacking in the mainstream, if I hadn't looked into this myself I'd still be risking my life on the pill, still be house-bound, constantly leak through and over everything, and still be feeling drained due to lack of iron and other important dietary needs.
